Canyon

Nimprou 's Canyon
- Location:
Georgioupoli
- Description:
Nimros Gorge. It stretches for about 6-7 km and is one
of the narrowest and deepest gorges encountered in the
region. In places, its walls stand 2 m apart and attain
a depth of 300 m, while elsewhere they converge, thus,
blocking the sky from view. Cypresses, holm-oaks and other
trees abound in the area. The motor road leading to Chora
Sfakion threads the gorge.

of stalagmites and stalactites that have assumed through
time spectacular shapes. The Agia Sofia Cave is a site
of considerable archaeological interest, as well, for
it has yielded potsherds that date to the Neolithic period.

by a unique evergreen plane-tree.
